Morningstar's Take VMED

About four years ago, Virgin Media's management began focusing the firm's marketing on its superior broadband network. While it provides almost all cable television service in the United Kingdom, it is still dwarfed by British Sky Broadcasting BSYBY in pay television and BT Group BT in fixed-line telephony. However in broadband, Virgin Media has more subscribers than BSkyB and only narrowly trails BT, though recently BSkyB and BT have been expanding their broadband bases faster than Virgin Media. Virgin Media's refined focus on high-value customers is paying off. During 2012's third quarter, 44% of new broadband customers subscribed to speeds of 60 Mb per second or higher and now 42% of its entire base receives at least 30 Mb per second.
